Prioritized list of Goals and Targets from the School Improvement plan
According to
information from the 2010 State Report Card, the following areas will
receive priority concern:
students with disabilities, students who are classified as economically at a
disadvantage, and the subjects of science and eighth grade social studies.
Goal #1
Our goal at MCJH is to improve the TCAP scores of students with
disabilities in Reading and Language Arts. According to report card 2010,
students with disabilities in Reading/Language Arts scored 25 percent
proficient or advanced compared to the state score of 28 percent. This shows
a discrepancy of 3 percent.
Also, report card 2010 indicated that students with disabilities in math at
MCJH scored 19.3 percent proficient or advanced.
This is compared to the state score of 19 percent.
We plan to raise scores of students with disabilities 10 percent in
Reading/Language Arts and 10 percent for students with disabilities in math.
Our target date of achievement is May 2012.
Goal #2
Our goal at MCJH is to improve the science scores by 7 percent in all
subgroups. According to report
card 2010 students in 7th grade science scored 11 percent
advanced compared to the state score of 14 percent.
This shows a discrepancy of 3 percent.
Students in 8th grade science scored 10 percent compared
to the state score of 15 percent.
This shows a discrepancy of 5 percent.
We plan to raise scores by 7 percent in both grades to reach advanced
levels and meet or exceed the state percentage.
Goal #3
The goal at MCJH is to raise social studies scores in every subgroup
by 10 percent. According to the
2010 report card, sixth grade social studies scores were at 33 percent
advanced compared to the states 34 percent with a discrepancy of 1 percent.
The seventh grade scores were 19 percent advanced compared to the
state’s 27 percent with a discrepancy of 8 percent.
The eighth grade scores were at 23 percent compared with the state’s
28 percent with a 5 percent discrepancy.
Also in the eighth grade, the scores were below proficient at 27
percent with the state at 25 percent.
We want to increase the number of students scoring advanced in all
grades by 10 percent and decrease the number of students in eighth grade
scoring below proficient by 5 percent. These percentages will put us at or
above the state expectations. The target date is May, 2012.
Goal #4
Our school goal for the state mandated TCAP Writing Assessment
Test is to exceed the state goal of 4.2 percent.
We plan to increase our scores, which are now at 4.0 percent, to at
least 4.3 percent. Our target
date is May, 2012.
Goal #5 This goal is based on information attained by surveying parents with children who attend the Macon County School System. Our goal is to improve the following areas in regards to parental involvement. Of the surveys returned, 47 percent of parents chose “agree”, “no opinion”, or “disagree”, in the category of teachers being accessible to discuss concerns about their children, and 55 percent chose the same scores in the category of adequate information being available through different media. We plan to decrease these percentages by 10 percent in each category and then increase them by 10 percent into the “strongly agree” score. The target date is May 2012.
All students will have the following core subjects:
Math
English
Science
Social Studies
Literature/Reading
